Setting Goals in Marriage: The Goal Ladder

setting goals in your marriage with a goal ladder

Everyone is talking goals and resolutions – being the New Year and all.  I even took a stab at it yesterday, talking about  the words that I am going to be using to navigate myself this year.

I thought it would be cool to pass along one method of goal setting that I really enjoy.  It’s relatively new to my world, introduced to me by my friend Sandy Griffin, only months ago.

Sandy is a coach and inspirational speaker.  Not to mention an inspirational person.  When I asked her a bit about my goals with this blog and my career, she imparted some very cool wisdom that I want to pass along to you.

The Goal Ladder

I knew how to set goals.  I had read some great books and blog posts on goals.  I knew they need to be SMART.

But, I’d never done alot of follow through.  They were always just kinda…’out there’ hanging around in the murky spaces in my head.

The Goal Ladder actually helps me (and maybe, you) think through the steps you need to take to achieve your goal.

A Quick Walk through of the Goal Ladder

    1. Draw a ladder. (You don’t have to be a great artist for this)
    2. Put your ‘Big Goal’ at the Top – make it time sensitive.
    3. Brainstorm the steps it will take you to make this goal happen.
    4. Sort out the steps, and put them on your ladder, from the step you need to take today (the bottom rung), all the way to the last rung (under your “Big Goal”)

Clear as mud?

Do you have a system you like using to set goals?

It is really a good idea to write down your goals, you're much more likely to complete them
