I am a bit late getting into this conversation, but I figured that it warranted a post…
Ms. California, Carrie Prejean, during the Ms. USA pageant on Sunday night stood up for what she believed in when it comes to marriage. She was asked by Judge Number 8 – the infamous Perez Hilton:
‘Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?’
Ms. Prejean answered:
“I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other,” she said. “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. ”
Most now say that this answer caused her to lose the Ms. USA crown. Perez Hilton, immediately following the show, did a video post about the whole deal {there is some rough language here – you were warned!}:

(As a side note – I haven’t seen the new Ms. USA on any shows – only Ms. California!)
Also interesting, I found an article saying that Carrie Prejean’s sister is a gay activist and was fine with Carrie’s answer.
Another good question that bloggers and reporters have begun to ask is:
‘It’s OK for our President to be all about marriage between a man and a woman – but it’s not OK for Ms. USA?’

Why should she be penalized for standing up for what she believes?
Honestly though, I thought questions given to pageant contestants weren’t supposed to be so controversial… I mean, it IS a pageant.
I found a very funny quote from @caleycook that sums it up pretty well:
“Laying the gay marriage debate with Ms. California is probably not the most educated forum, no? Like 3rd graders debating foreign policy.”
That might be a little strong, but point taken.
I believe the Big Winner in this whole deal is is not Ms. North Carolina, but Donald Trump who owns the Ms. USA Pageant.
Ratings weren’t huge for the pageant itself, but now it’s getting all this extra free time in the media.
What are your thoughts on the Ms. California/Perez Hilton debacle?

I clicked this from your Twitter post today (4/24/10) and just wanted to throw this out there. It doesn't state my personal position one way or the other and it's really not about Carrie Prejean, either, but it's food for thought. (Thanks to a gay friend's Facebook status update…)
“So Larry King is getting his 8th divorce, Elizabeth Taylor is possibly getting married for the 9th time, Jesse James and Tiger Woods are screwing EVERYTHING, yet the idea of SAME-SEX MARRIAGE is what is going to destroy the institution of marriage?!?! REALLY?!?!”
